NNPP Chieftain tells FG to approve N200,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
The NNPP Chieftain, Prof. Rufus Adaeseserei Adecolade, has called on the Federal Government to approve a minimum wage of N200,000 for Nigerian workers.
This demand was made during a press conference held in Abuja on the 15th of March, 2023. Adecolade, who is also the National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), argued that the current minimum wage of N30,000 is no longer sufficient to meet the needs of workers in Nigeria. He stated that the cost of living has significantly increased over the past few years and that workers deserve a wage that can adequately provide for their families.
According to Adecolade, “The current minimum wage of N30,000 is a joke. It is not enough to take care of the basic needs of workers and their families. We are calling on the Federal Government to approve a minimum wage of N200,000. This is what workers truly deserve.”
He further stated that many Nigerian workers are struggling to make ends meet with their current salaries and that this situation is unsustainable. He urged the Federal Government to consider the plight of workers and to take immediate action to address this issue.
It is important to note that this demand for a higher minimum wage is not new in Nigeria. In fact, labor unions have been advocating for an increase in the minimum wage for several years now. However, despite various calls and protests, the Federal Government has yet to take decisive action on this matter.
