Heavy Tension As Gov.Fubara Storms Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters
Governor Siminalayi Fubara visited the Rivers State House of Assembly complex amid a renewed political crisis in the state. The visit came after a factional speaker loyal to him, Victor Oko-Jumbo, emerged following a meeting by lawmakers supportive of the governor. Fubara’s presence at the assembly complex was to assess the facility and potentially make improvements following the emergence of the new speaker.
The political tension in Rivers State escalated as Governor Fubara paid an unscheduled visit to the Assembly Quarters, which serves as the official residence for the 32 legislators and houses temporary chambers. Accompanied by security personnel and aides, Fubara briefly toured the premises before departing to inspect a road project scheduled for inauguration during his upcoming first-anniversary celebrations.
Fubara expressed satisfaction with the road project’s execution and highlighted its significance. Regarding his visit to the Assembly Quarters, he mentioned that it was to evaluate the facility in light of the new Speaker’s emergence, suggesting potential necessary work for improvement.
The emergence of Victor Oko-Jumbo as Speaker occurred during a plenary session where he was elected in line with the Standing Order of the House. Oko-Jumbo, one of four lawmakers loyal to Governor Fubara during the state’s political crisis, replaced Edison Ehie who resigned from his position as Speaker and was appointed Chief of Staff by Fubara.
The visit by Governor Fubara stirred mixed reactions on social media, with some expressing support for his actions while others criticized his approach amidst the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State.
