Ex-governor of Benue State dies at 73

Joshua Obademi was born on March 31, 1951, in Ikaramu Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State. He received his early education at St. Andrew’s Senior Primary School before attending African Church Secondary Modern School in Ikare. In 1969, he enlisted in the Nigerian Military School in Zaria and later joined the Nigeria Defence Academy in Kaduna.

Obademi began his career as a pilot officer in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in 1972. Over the years, he held various positions within the NAF, including serving as Officer Commanding Armament Squadron at Central Logistics Wing Lagos and Commander of Central Armament Depot Makurdi. He also served as Director of Armament at NAF Headquarters and held other key roles within the military.

In December 1993, Joshua Obademi was appointed as the Military Administrator of Benue State by General Sani Abacha and served until August 1996. During his tenure, he focused on initiatives related to functional literacy for women and economic development in Benue State. His contributions to the state were significant and are considered integral to its history.

Obademi’s passing on May 10, 2024, marked the end of a chapter for Benue State and Nigeria as a whole. His legacy as a dedicated soldier and leader who prioritized development will be remembered by many.
