🚨BREAKING: MAURICIO POCHETTINO is set to leave Chelsea by mutual consent.
Mauricio Pochettino has left Chelsea Football Club by mutual consent after spending only one season in charge. He guided the team to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, securing European football for the upcoming season. The Argentine manager led Chelsea to the Carabao Cup final and FA Cup semi-finals during his tenure. Prior to joining Chelsea, Pochettino had previously managed Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur.
Assistant coaches Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and Sebastiano Pochettino have also departed from Chelsea. Mauricio Pochettino was appointed as Chelsea manager last May following a lengthy recruitment process, replacing interim manager Frank Lampard. During his time at Chelsea, the club spent over £400m on new signings but also sold nearly £250m worth of players, including senior members Cesar Azpilicueta, N’Golo Kante, and Mateo Kovacic.
Pochettino’s departure comes after five consecutive wins in the Premier League that secured European football for Chelsea. However, there were reports of tension between Pochettino and the club’s leadership group regarding his future at Stamford Bridge. Sky Sports reported that both sides felt they couldn’t make it work as they were on different paths.
Pochettino will manage the World XI at Soccer Aid for the second year running in early June at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge home. Possible replacements for Pochettino include Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna, Leicester’s Enzo Maresca, Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, Girona head coach Michel, and Brentford boss Thomas Frank.
