Kogi State Government begins Renovation of primary healthcare center

The Kogi State Government has commenced the rehabilitation of 70 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state. Funding for this project has been secured by the state government, and pre-qualified contractors have been selected for the renovation work. The PHCs will be distributed across the 21 local government areas in the state, with an additional seven new facilities to be established in communities without existing healthcare facilities. This initiative is part of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to revitalizing the health sector in Kogi State.

Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of quality and affordable healthcare for all residents under his administration, highlighting the collaborative efforts required from governmental and non-governmental organizations to achieve this goal. He also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu for supporting interventions in the health sector through infrastructure and human resource development under the Renewed Hope Agenda. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. AbdulAzeez Adams, mentioned that significant investments have been made to enhance healthcare delivery systems in Kogi State, including providing medical equipment and consumables to healthcare facilities.

In addition to rehabilitating existing PHCs, Governor Ododo announced plans to revamp and upgrade three primary healthcare centers in each of the 21 Local Government Areas to improve healthcare accessibility in underserved communities. This initiative aligns with efforts to enroll civil servants and vulnerable populations in health insurance schemes under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund. The Governor expressed gratitude towards President Tinubu for supporting these initiatives and commended former Governor Yahaya Bello for establishing the Kogi State Health Insurance Agency as a foundation for improving healthcare access.

Overall, these actions demonstrate a comprehensive approach by the Kogi State Government to strengthen primary healthcare services, enhance healthcare infrastructure, and expand access to quality medical care for all residents across the state.
