Nigerian Woman Commits Suicide Over Failed Marriage.

Margaret Oyibo Atayi, a Nigerian woman from Ugbokolo Local Government Area of Benue State, allegedly committed suicide on May 20, 2024, three days after she was declared missing by her family members. She was last seen around City College Of Education, Abacha road, Mararaba, Nasarawa State at about 3am on Friday, May 17. Her body was discovered later that day. According to her father, Mr. Patrick Atayi, she had been in depression for some time due to mistreatment in her marriage.

The incident came to light when Margaret’s sister, Ochanya Chelle, announced her death on Facebook and expressed gratitude for the help and resources provided by those who joined the search party. In a subsequent post responding to Joe Smart Eigege’s comment, Stella revealed that Margaret’s depression was caused by her husband’s previous wife’s death in similar circumstances and his subsequent abandonment of Margaret with their two children.

Further investigation by Daily Post and Idoma Voice Newspaper confirmed that Margaret had been happily married to her husband from Orokam, Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State, after the death of his first wife. However, they were later relocated back to Nigeria where he abandoned her with their children. The sources emphasized the importance of speaking out and seeking help during difficult times rather than succumbing to despair.
