Rivers State to celebrate Fubara with international Marathon
The Rivers International Marathon, that was scheduled for May 18, 2024, in Port Harcourt, is being used to celebrate the one year anniversary of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers state. The event has received massive backing from Fubara and corporate Nigeria. Two financial institutions, Globus and Zenith Bank, have thrown their weight behind the race as partners. The marathon aims to showcase the beauty of Rivers State, boost commerce, encourage residents to take up running and jogging as a way of staying healthy, and serve as a platform to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Rivers State.

According to Peterside Idah, the head of media and communications for the race, the event is being used to celebrate the one year anniversary of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s tenure in Rivers State. Idah revealed that Fubara has been a massive supporter of the race and that corporate Nigeria has also shown appreciation for the strides made in sports development by backing the event. Two financial institutions, Globus and Zenith Bank, have come on board as partners.
The marathon is not just about sports but also about showcasing the beauty of Rivers State and boosting commerce. It will provide an opportunity to encourage residents to take up running and jogging as a way of staying healthy. Idah stated that “aside from showcasing how beautiful our state is, especially the capital, Port Harcourt, we are also going to showcase our culture.” The event promises to be a powerful platform for celebrating indigenous traditions and customs while invigorating the tourism sector.
