Five-Story Missionary Building Collapses in Onitsha
The collapse of the five-story building under construction in Onitsha, Anambra State, occurred around 7:15 am on a Wednesday morning. The building, which belonged to Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), collapsed at DMGS Junction near the school premises. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties as work had not yet commenced due to the early hour of the incident. The cause of the collapse is suspected to be linked to the use of substandard materials in the construction process.
The collapsed building was named the Centenary Building and was being sponsored by the school’s Old Boys Association. The project aimed to unveil the building during the upcoming centenary celebration of DMGS. The school, owned by the Anglican Communion, is considered an elite educational institution that has produced notable professionals, including businessman Obinna Iyiegbu (Obi Cubana), who are among the project’s financiers.
