CCFN Condemns APC’s Call for Emergency Rule in Rivers State

The CCFN has strongly condemned the Rivers state chapter of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) for its call for emergency rule in the state, attributing the current crisis in the local government system to the APC’s internal issues and mismanagement. The group believes that declaring a state of emergency would undermine democratic governance and erode public trust in the democratic process, further disenfranchising the people of Rivers State and potentially increasing tensions.

Root Causes of the Problems Need to be Addressed

Instead, the CCFN urges authorities to take proactive measures addressing the underlying causes of security challenges in Rivers State. The executive director, Dr. Ekeanyanwu Promise, argues that declaring a state of emergency is not a viable solution; it risks exacerbating violence, displacement, and human rights abuses. The group strongly advocates for the swift apprehension of any individual whose provocative statements and activities have contributed to the current unrest and instability.

APC Accuses PDP of Being Supremely Responsible for Crisis in Rivers State

In response to PDP’s allegations about APC’s planned forceful takeover of Rivers State, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described PDP’s claims as ridiculous and baseless. Morka accused PDP of peddling falsehood about a non-existent plot to interfere with the government of Rivers State instead of giving a crash course to Fubara on basic tenets of democratic and constitutional governance for the benefit of the Rivers people. He emphasized that Governor Fubara is the supreme architect of the horrific crisis rocking Rivers State due to his reckless disdain for the rule of law and democratic institutions.
