Police raid IPOB camp in Anambra, arrest four

The Anambra State Police Command raided a camp belonging to members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Ufuma, Orumba North Local Government Area of the state. Four suspects were arrested during the raid. The police received information about planned attacks on security agents and innocent citizens by the group. One of the suspects, Maduabuchi Nwafor, also known as Omenkpo, was identified as a native doctor who prepares charms for the group and uses his shrine for initiation ceremonies and meeting points for criminals. Another suspect, whose name was withheld, confessed to being one of the gunmen dispatched by the group to enforce the illegal sit-at-home on May 30, 2024. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, ordered investigations to be widened and deepened to identify hideouts of the insurgents seeking to destabilize and truncate development in the state. He assured the people of Anambra that the police command will continue to serve them selflessly and will protect the sources of its information to protect informers from harm.
