Reps Deputy Speaker give update after meeting Nnamdi Kanu
Will Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB), be released soon?
According to Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, there are high hopes that Nnamdi Kanu will soon regain his freedom. Hon. Kalu has met with Kanu a couple of times at the Department of State Security (DSS) facility and expressed excitement over the recent call by 50 members of the 10th House of Representatives seeking for the release of the detained IPoB leader. He mentioned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is interested in the peace and development of the South East and given the appeals made, a political solution is imminent in resolving Kanu’s case.
Moreover, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu confirmed that intense lobbying for Kanu’s release is ongoing. While legal processes are ongoing, political solutions are also being worked out. He hinted at a likely visit by the elders of Igbo land to engage President Tinubu on familiar issues affecting the South East, including Kanu’s case. He mentioned that he has been vocal about recognizing the importance of Kanu in the peace agenda they are pushing and has been working closely on this mandate.
Therefore, based on these statements, it can be inferred that there are ongoing efforts to release Nnamdi Kanu soon through political solutions and lobbying. However, it is essential to note that legal processes are still ongoing and may affect the timeline for his release.
